One of the best places to turn to for understanding true love is 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, often referred to as “The Love Chapter” in the Bible. It beautifully describes the characteristics of love and challenges us all to live with a heart of compassion. As a mom, I’ve found that fun and meaningful activities are a great way to instill these principles into my children’s hearts. One of my favorite ways to do this is with a craft that helps reinforce the message of this scripture.

In this blog post, I’ll share a simple, creative heart craft idea for teaching kids the beautiful message of 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, along with some thought-provoking questions to ask them as they go through the process. This craft not only helps your child memorize the verse but also allows them to apply the qualities of love to their own lives. So, let’s get started!

Heart Crafts for Kids: A “Love Is Patient, Love Is Kind” Bible Verse Craft for Kids

The passage from 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 is one that holds incredible depth and meaning. It reads:

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

This passage highlights the core qualities that define true love. It’s not just about how we feel; it’s about how we act toward others, especially in times of challenge and difficulty. These qualities are essential in relationships, and they’re essential to teach our children as well.

1 Corinthians Love Is Bible Verse Craft: Detailed Instructions and Tips

Heart crafts are fun for spreading love! While this love craft for kids is pretty straightforward, I have a few tips to offer that may help your crafting experience go smoother. First, as stated in the instructions above, I strongly suggest coloring the printable before cutting out the pieces. This is especially true regarding the “flower stems.” In addition, when applying glue to the back of the flower stems, place the stem on a piece of scrap paper, anchor one end with your finger, and drag the glue stick along the stem. This strategy makes things a lot easier!

Have your child glue the vase onto the bottom portion of their construction paper first. Have your child glue the back of the vase, avoiding the top “neck” of the vase. This will give your child a little more wiggle room when he or she places the flower stems under the top of the vase. Once all of the stems are in place, glue the top of the vase onto the paper.

1 Corinthians Love Is Bible Verse Craft: More Tips

As your child places the flower stems inside the vase, they may want to trim some of the stems to ensure that all of the hearts and flowers fit the page. As you can see in the image below, my child’s stems are varying lengths. This tip is simply a matter of preference, so encourage your child to place the stems and flowers as they see fit.

Finally, and most importantly, use your child’s finished heart crafts artwork as a springboard for conversation about God’s love. I have included some questions below to help you get the ball rolling. The crafts and activities on the Shema Culture blog are intended to be used for hands-on fun, learning, and family bonding. You never know where the conversation will lead!

Heart Crafts With a Group of Kids

If you plan to do this heart craft with a group of children, I have a few tips to make things easier for you. First, I suggest creating craft kits to help your crafting experience flow. A craft kit is simply a zip-top sandwich bag that contains the cutouts each child will need for this project. If you are preparing to do this heart craft with a large group of children who may have trouble with cutting with scissors, grab your friends and have a cutting prep party! In addition, craft kits are easy to distribute when you are working with large groups of kids.
