I don’t know about you, but I could definitely use a little growth in the Fruit of the Spirit department. Looking back, I can see how Yahweh has grown me in this area, but I still have a long way to go! I have found that teaching my kids about specific Biblical concepts helps me to grow in that area as well. Funny how that works!

In our house, we often talk about the Fruit of the Spirit. That’s probably because we have many opportunities to practice love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control! As a mom, I find myself regularly asking the Father to strengthen these Fruits within my heart. He never fails to help me when I need His strength. . . and let’s be honest, that’s every moment of every day!

Because learning about the Fruit of the Spirit is so important to our family, I knew I had to create games and crafts around this concept. My kids love to play bingo, so what better way to teach about “the Fruit” than to make a Fruit of the Spirit free printable! I got to work and came up with a simple Bible bingo game that will open the door to fun and meaningful conversation with your kids.

I am always amazed by how the simplest of games can be used by God to teach my children about His Word. Over the years, I have found that simple and practical trumps fancy and complicated any day of the week. Especially when it comes to teaching God’s Truth to our children. Kids don’t need complicated crafts and games in order to learn. What’s more, in many cases, elaborate activities can overwhelm kids and all of the confusion overshadows the whole point of the activity: to learn more about the Truth while having fun!

How to Prepare for the Fruit of the Spirit Bingo Game

Preparing for this Fruit of the Spirit Bingo Game is very simple. Scroll to the bottom of this post and click the button to access your free Bible game printable. Print as many cards as you need and the set of call-out answer cards. You will notice that there is a duplicate of the call-out answers. That’s because each bingo card will include duplicate images, so be sure to print both pages of call-out answers.

You can choose to print your cards and call-out answers on regular printer paper or on cardstock. Of course, cardstock will last longer, but plain printer paper works great. And if you’d like to keep this printable to play in the future, you could always laminate the cards and call-out answers. And while you certainly can print the PDF in black and white, printing in color makes the game a little more fun!

Cheap and Easy DIY Bible Bingo Game Pieces

If you already own bingo game pieces that your kids can use to cover the images on their bingo cards, great! If you’re like me and you need to come up with a creative way to make some game pieces, I’ve got some ideas for you. First, construction paper can be used for this purpose in a pinch. Simply stack a couple of pieces together, cut slits down the length of the paper, and then make a parallel cut along the slit to create little paper squares.

If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, edible bingo game pieces are always a big hit. Our family often uses small snacks like raisins, nuts, mini pretzels, or chocolate chips. Go raid your pantry and I’m sure you’ll find something that will work. The challenge is always keeping your kids from eating the game pieces!

How Do You Play Fruit of the Spirit Bingo?

Now that you’ve got your Bible bingo cards, call-out answer cards, and game pieces figured out, you’re ready to play! This Fruit of the Spirit bingo game is versatile, so make it work for your kids, depending on their ages. The simplest way to play this game is to choose whether you would like the winning card(s) to achieve “bingo” vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. In addition, you could opt to have the kids win by “blacking out” their cards by covering every square. The choice is yours!

Using the Fruit of the Spirit Call-Out Cards

After cutting out the call-out cards, place them in a bowl. You will also need an additional bowl in which you will place used cards. After you have used up all of the cards you can begin drawing from the second bowl. As I previously stated, the free printable includes duplicate call-out cards since each bingo card includes duplicate images.

For small children who cannot yet read, you will want to call out the fruit and then the corresponding Fruit of the Spirit. For example, “apple, joy.” If you need to make things a little more challenging for older kids, you can choose to call out the bingo letters along with the call-out card that you draw. Simply rotate through the letters B-I-N-G-O. You could also give clues about the fruits and have them guess which fruit you are referring to. For example, “This is the Fruit of the Spirit you need when you’re tempted to eat too many cookies” (self-control). That one hit me in the feels!

Bible Bingo Game for Kids

As you are playing this game with your sweet kiddos, use the opportunity to discuss each Fruit of the Spirit and what it means. Ask your children open-ended questions that get them thinking about how each Fruit operates in his/her life. Give examples of how you have struggled with exhibiting the Fruit of the Spirit and how God has strengthened you in these areas. The most important part of this activity is to teach kids the importance of allowing Yahweh’s Fruit to grow in their lives. Have fun and be blessed!
