10 Commandments Activity

One of my favorite Bible topics to teach my children is the 10 Commandments. That’s because learning God’s rules for living is foundational to our faith! I love to explain to my children that following God’s ways leads to His blessing. Following Him doesn’t mean that life will always be perfect or comfortable, but it will be blessed when we abide in Him! Here are a few verses that express this Truth:

Deuteronomy 28:1-2: And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all His commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you if you obey the voice of the Lord your God.

Psalms 128:1-2: Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways! You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you.

Proverbs 3:1-2: My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep My commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.

Psalm 33:18: Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love.

1 John 3:22: And whatever we ask we receive from Him because we keep His commandments and do what pleases Him.

Proverbs 28:14: Blessed is the one who fears the Lord always, but whoever hardens his heart will fall into calamity.

10 Commandments Game

This simple 10 Commandments game is a fun way to teach kids about the importance of learning God’s Laws. In addition to learning His Ways, we must help our children understand that applying His Truth to our lives is what really counts. Head knowledge is not more important than a changed heart!

To help your children learn more about the 10 Commandments, consider asking your child the following questions to spark meaningful conversation:

What are the 10 Commandments and why do you think they are important?

How do the 10 Commandments help us live better lives?

Can you think of any of the 10 Commandments that are particularly important to you? Why?

How do the 10 Commandments teach us to treat others?

Do you think following the 10 Commandments helps us make good choices? Why or why not?

How do the 10 Commandments relate to other rules or guidelines we follow daily?

What do you think would happen if everyone followed the 10 Commandments?

Can you think of any stories or examples from the Bible that show why the 10 Commandments are important?

How can we remember to follow the 10 Commandments in our everyday lives?

Why do you think God gave us the 10 Commandments?

10 Commandments Free Printable: Pin Moses on Mt. Sinai

You will need a few supplies to play this 10 Commandments activity game:

  • 1 printed Mt. Sinai scene
  • 1 Moses game card per player
  • pencils, pens, or markers (for children to write their names on their game cards)
  • scissors
  • painter’s tape
  • a scarf or long piece of fabric to use as a blindfold

Now it’s time to prepare for the 10 Commandments activity! This game is a takeoff on the traditional “pin the tail on the donkey” game. Except this time, your child will be pinning Moses and the 10 Commandments to the top of Mt. Sinai!

To prepare for the 10 Commandments activity, scroll to the bottom of this post. Click the button to print the game. You will need 1 Mt. Sinai scene and 1 Moses game card per player. The printable includes 6 game cards. Therefore, you should print multiple Moses game card pages if you have more than 6 players. You can print the game on printer paper, but I suggest printing on cardstock for a sturdier result.

Moses Games and Activities

Once you have your 10 Commandments activity game printed, cut out each Moses game piece. Have each player write their name on the line of the game card. Next, tear off short pieces of tape and fold them into a loop. Press the loops onto the back of the Mt. Sinai scene and mount the scene on the wall where you will play the game. In addition, press a tape loop onto the back of each child’s Moses game card.

At this point, each player should be holding their Moses game card. Have the players line up and blindfold the child who will be the first player. Place the child in front of the Mt. Sinai scene. Use your judgment to determine how far away from the scene the players should stand. This will largely depend on their ages. If you have a group of children of varied ages, consider placing younger children closer to and older children farther away from the scene. You may want to mark the distances on the floor with tape. Each blindfolded child gets a turn to stick their Moses game card to the scene. Whoever gets their game card closest to the top of Mt. Sinai wins!
