My family and I started celebrating the Day of Pentecost several years ago. Even though my husband and I have been believers for most of our lives, we never paid much attention to this special Day. However, several years back our eyes were opened to the importance of this celebration. After all, God giving His children His Holy Spirit is something to be excited about! Since realizing we were missing out, we look forward to getting together with family and friends to celebrate the Day of Pentecost.

Acts 2 tells us the account of the coming of the Holy Spirit upon believers. Every time I read these Scriptures I cannot imagine the experience of being in the room when the Holy Spirit descended and flaming tongues appeared above the believers’ heads. How amazing! Moreover, before studying the topic, I never connected the 10 Commandments given to Moses and the Day of Pentecost. However, they are directly linked! God giving the Law to Moses in the book of Exodus foreshadowed the giving of the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts.

The 10 Commandments and the Day of Pentecost Connection

Speaking of the 10 Commandments, I have several crafts and activities created around this topic here on the Shema Culture blog. I love teaching my kids about God’s Rules because they are foundational to our faith. Your kids will love the 10 Commandments scavenger hunt, match game, preschool craft, Bible bingo game, and more! We know that God gives His children good gifts. While the gift of salvation through God’s Son is the ultimate gift, His Law and His Holy Spirit are also amazing. The fact that God loves us enough to give us instructions for living that bring about blessings is priceless. In addition, He also gives us His Holy Spirit to lead and guide us according to those instructions. He has provided us with everything we need to walk out the calling He has placed on our lives.

As a mama, I want my children to know and understand how much God loves them. That is why celebrating the Day of Pentecost is important to our family. But how do you celebrate the giving of the Holy Spirit with kids? One simple tool for teaching children about the coming of the Holy Spirit is a Pentecost coloring page. It may seem insignificant, but coloring pages can be a springboard for creativity and conversation.

Pentecost Color Sheet

So how do you use this Pentecost color sheet to help kids learn about the story found in Acts 2? The answer is simple: as your child colors the Pentecost coloring page, read the account of the giving of the Holy Spirit from the Bible. You may want to use a children’s Bible if your child is very young. As you read the story to your child, come up with a few trivia questions about the story. Here are some ideas for questions to ask your child:

Were the believers in the story together or scattered? (together)

What did the sound from Heaven sound like? (a mighty rushing wind)

What appeared and rested on the believers? (tongues of fire)

What happened to the believers when they were filled with the Holy Spirit? (they began speaking in other languages)

Once we discuss the story found in Acts 2, it is important for us, as mamas, to explain how this event applies to us today. I encourage you to talk with your child about how the Holy Spirit helps those who believe in God live lives that are pleasing to Him. The Holy Spirit is that still, small Voice that guides us to follow God’s instruction. Teach your children to listen and obey God every day.

If you want to take the Pentecost coloring page to the next level, you can encourage your child to get extra creative. For example, provide your child with basic arts and crafts supplies in addition to the Pentecost coloring sheet. Scissors, glue sticks, construction paper, and yarn are good options. Children may wish to mount their coloring sheets on construction paper with glue to create a poster for the wall in their room. In addition, they could glue the color sheet to construction paper, cut out the images, punch a hole in the top of the piece, and hang it with yarn. You may be surprised at your child’s creativity when you allow them to think outside the box!

My children enjoy using watercolors with coloring sheets. Watercolors are a fun way to make a regular coloring page unique. I suggest printing the Holy Spirit coloring page on cardstock if your child uses paints. To get your free printable Pentecost coloring page, scroll to the bottom of this post and click the corresponding button. The document will open and will be ready for printing. Again, you can print the Holy Spirit coloring page on computer paper. However, cardstock will give you a sturdier result if you intend to introduce craft supplies other than crayons and markers.

The free printable Pentecost coloring sheet pack found below includes three unique designs. The “Happy Pentecost” design could be used as a card or a sign to decorate for the occasion. The next design depicts the believers receiving the Holy Spirit with tongues of fire above their heads. It also includes the Bible verse from Acts describing the event. Finally, the “Come, Holy Spirit” design showcases a dove representing the Holy Spirit. I created three designs so children of all ages can find one they like. The pages could be stapled together to create a Day of Pentecost book.

I hope that your children enjoy these Day of Pentecost coloring pages. In addition, I hope they serve as a resource for you to teach your child about the wonderful gift of the Holy Spirit. I pray that God’s Truth settles into the nooks and crannies of your child’s heart as you instruct them in His Ways.
