Bible Scavenger Hunt

As a mama, I am passionate about finding fun and interactive ways to teach my children about God’s Truth. I created the Shema Culture blog to provide busy moms with easy and fun ideas for training children in righteousness. After all, Deuteronomy 6:4-7 reads:

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

We are commanded to teach our children diligently the ways of God. Everyday opportunities for training our children to know and love God are everywhere. Children do not learn to love God through strict Bible lessons or flashcards. They develop a relationship with the One True God when we train them “as we sit in our houses and we walk along the way, and when we lie down and rise.” In addition, as mamas, our lives should reflect God’s love that shines into our children’s hearts.

As a mama, I know how frustrating it can be to look for easy Bible activities only to find that they call for a long list of materials and lots of time to prepare! I believe Bible activities should be easy and simple for moms to implement. If you would like more Bible crafts, games, and activities, click on the images below:

Simple Bible games and activities are my favorite way to teach my kids about God’s Word. I believe that hands-on learning is learning that sticks. This Bible scavenger hunt game for kids encourages discussion of popular Bible stories interactively. The game cards and game check-off sheets show pictures that represent a popular Bible story. In addition, Scripture references are provided for each Biblical account so you can dig deeper into the stories that interest your kids.

After playing the Bible scavenger hunt, invite your kids to choose their favorite game card. Next, open your Bible and read the story corresponding to the game card your child chose. Encourage your kids to ask questions about the story. This Scripture scavenger hunt game can serve as a springboard for meaningful conversation about God’s Word. As you read the stories from the Bible, jot down a few simple questions and quiz your children about the story.

Bible Story Game for Kids: How to Play

This Bible scavenger hunt game could not be easier to play! In addition, it is perfect for family gatherings, homeschool groups, church congregations, or a fun activity for a rainy day. There is something about a scavenger hunt that gets kids excited and ready to learn and play. Also, this Bible scavenger hunt is easy to tailor to your unique setting and children. You will need just a few supplies to play this game:

  • printer
  • computer paper
  • scissors
  • pencil, crayon, or marker for each player
  • printed game cards
  • printed Bible scavenger hunt check-off game sheet for each player

To prepare for the game, scroll to the bottom of this post and click the button to open the free printable Scripture scavenger hunt game. Print one set of game cards and one check-off game sheet per player. Hide the game cards around the venue where you will play the game. If you play this game at home, you may want to hide the game cards inside or outside. Furthermore, if you play the game in a church setting, I suggest setting clear boundaries regarding where the children can search for the game cards.

Once the cards have been hidden, you are ready to play! Have the children search for the game cards. When they find a card they should check it off on their game sheet and leave it for someone else to discover. If you would like to make the game more challenging, you can set a timer for the length of time appropriate for the players’ ages. Also, younger children will appreciate it if the game pieces are hidden in more obvious locations. Feel free to tailor the Bible scavenger hunt to the unique abilities of the children you are working with.

Once the children have found the hidden game cards, have them count how many they checked off on their list. The player with the most checks wins! Know that there is a good chance that your kids will want to play again. I speak from experience! My older children enjoy playing Bible scavenger hunt games, just the two of them. One hides the game cards and the other searches for them. This game has the potential to provide kids with hours of entertainment!

Bible Treasure Hunt

If you would like to make this Bible scavenger hunt extra special, you can hide special treasures in addition to the game cards. These”treasures” can be anything you like, such as small toys, stickers, or snacks. Your child will love knowing that special prizes are waiting to be found! Sometimes the smallest tokens can mean the world to a child. Including a treasure hunt with the Scripture scavenger hunt is a fun idea. However, it is not a requirement. Therefore, don’t let it keep you from playing the game if you don’t have any treasure to hide.
