What is the 7 Days of Creation?

Before we get into the scavenger hunt, let’s quickly review the 7 days of Creation story from the Bible. This foundational narrative, found in Genesis 1, tells the story of how God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh. It’s a beautiful story that teaches children about God’s power, creativity, and care for the world. Here’s a brief overview:

  1. Day 1 – God created light and separated it from darkness.
  2. Day 2 – God created the sky and separated the waters above and below.
  3. Day 3 – God gathered the waters together, allowing dry land to appear, and then created plants and trees.
  4. Day 4 – God created the sun, moon, and stars to give light to the earth and to mark the seasons, days, and years.
  5. Day 5 – God created living creatures in the sea and birds in the sky.
  6. Day 6 – God created animals on the land and humanity (Adam and Eve) in His image.
  7. Day 7 – God rested from His work, making the seventh day holy.

How to Set Up the 7 Days of Creation Scavenger Hunt

The best part about this activity is how simple and accessible it is to set up. You can use the 7 days of creation printable I’ve included at the end of this post. It’s easy and free!

Here’s how to get started:

Download the Free 7 Days of Creation Printable

First, make sure you grab your free 7 days of creation printable scavenger hunt by clicking the link at the bottom of this post! This printable will include a list of pictures representing each of the 7 days of creation. It’s an easy way to visually guide the scavenger hunt. Each player will need a pencil and a check-off sheet to play. You will only need to print one set of cards to hide. You can print the cards on regular computer paper, but printing on cardstock will give you a sturdier result. I’ve included bonus cards that are not represented on the check-off list sheet. Kids will love finding these special cards! Simply hide them as you would the other cards. You could give out special prizes for the kids who find the bonus cards!

Cut Out the Scavenger Hunt Cards

After downloading the 7 days of creation printable, cut out the cards. If you want to make the cards extra durable, you can also laminate them so they can be reused for future activities.

Hide the Scavenger Hunt Clues

Next, take each scavenger hunt cards and hide them around the house or backyard. Each card will represent one of the days of creation. To add an extra bit of fun, place the cards in places that tie into the Creation story. For example, you could hide the “Day 1 – Light” card in a brightly lit area or the “Day 3 – Plants and Trees” card near a potted plant.

Start the Scavenger Hunt

Once everything is set up, it’s time to gather the kids and explain the rules. The goal is for them to find each item on the scavenger hunt list and check it off on their sheet.

Celebrate the Creation Story

After completing the scavenger hunt, take a moment to talk with your kids about each of the 7 days of creation. Use the discussion questions I’ve provided below to spark deeper reflection and understanding.
